Wireless SecurityAlthough you think your wireless network is the most secure in the world, I am sorry to disappoint you but it’s pretty unlikely.

If you follow security guidelines, congratulations , you are among the select group of people who pay attention , or at least try, to the wireless security. But that is not enough. We will discuss briefly the 3 most typical attacks they face this type of network , and a small solution for each of them.

By taking advantage of the internet , it is easy to learn that no one trusts WEP, normal thing, and everyone points to as WPA2 wireless security for intelligent decision , but what ‘s it really as safe as it seems at first sight?
Tracking a little more, we conclude that not only worth having WPA2 , it is necessary to have a strong password. If we rely on what most websites tell us , we will put a password of at least 8 characters with letters (uppercase and lowercase ), numbers and symbols.
You use these guidelines if you , congratulations , you are among the select group of people who pay attention , or at least try, to the wireless security. But that is not enough. We will discuss briefly the 3 most typical attacks they face this type of network , and a small solution for each of them.
– Dictionary attacks : The attacker has a list of many words going testing , mixing , adding letters and symbols … with the intention of breaking our authentication. The solution to this problem is very simple, NEVER put existing words in the dictionary (hence the name of the attack ) in a password. It is likely that the fall is a few hours of iterations with a good set of terms.

Brute – force against WPS : Many will not know or that you are WPS , as in the simplest terms , it is a standard designed to facilitate the configuration of a wireless network by associating the client with the access point through a PIN 8 digits. The problem is that this is a pretty intrusion vector used today . The crumb of the matter is that when the 4 first digits are incorrect, the wireless router itself sends an error message with what adding that the last digit is the checksum of the key, down to 11,000 existing possibilities. Just disable it in order not to think about problems related to this type of attack .
– Default passwords : Have you ever heard of those ancient legends that tell the devices come with a default administrator password ? Well it is. Notice to mariners , that is not the same password that you use every day to connect yourself to the wireless , but one that utilizasteis , if you did it to set it up. If they have not changed and have the classic 12345 or 0000 ( believe me, are so complicated ), any hacker who gains access to your wireless will have complete control over the configuration of the router and may terminate your access , limiting the connection … This problem is easier to solve , it is to change that password.
Many people often say that all these problems do not affect them because they have configured a MAC address filtering (which may make certain equipment or to access your wireless connection). That really does not protect them as much as they believe , and to do that address masking to bypass such controls . Anyway , it is a barrier that is more interesting to note .
If you follow all the steps that have been mentioned, your wireless may not be the safest in the world, but at least it will not be the most vulnerable either. If nevertheless you want to follow your old habits unsafe , go ahead, but now at least you are informed.
Forewarned is forearmed .
