Pablo Garaizar (@txipi) is a staunch advocate of free software , both for its technical capabilities as the implications for freedom of the people using it and develops . There is not a person who has opened the doors of the hall of wisdom.

The first to go through the interrogation room is Pablo Garaizar Sagarminaga . Some fall just yet , but if I say that the interview is Txipi , everything changes. For those who do not have the pleasure of meeting , they can investigate a bit different on your personal page . But if there is a phrase that defines Txipi well , is this:

“I am a staunch advocate of free software , both for its technical capabilities as the implications for freedom of the people using it and develops . ”

Pablo- Garaizar – Sagarminaga1 – To begin an easy , Where Txipi name come from?

As a child I became blind and was also very txipirones morenito (I’m now deathly white TFT for hours if I were UVA radiation seem Zaplana ) , so my aunt started calling Txipi Nieves . I told a friend in class and … until today . Actually the number of txipis in Euskadi is so astronomical that it is rare that there is a gang without Txipi .

2 – Who would you say is the person that has taught you computer ?

I’m not a person who has opened the doors of the hall of wisdom. Lots of people contributed . Starting potelé and Manu de la Herran , older brothers two close friends , who taught me what I thought as dominating ( the basic Spectrum ) was much more himself. Companions as Iñaki Etxebarria, able to understand every last bit of the x86 architecture also taught me another way of looking computers. Teachers as JosuKa allowed me to abstract the physical machine to anything and know some of the limits of this approach … Many people have taught me and continue to teach me , because I still have a lot to discover.

3 – Your hard struggle to free software is widely known to all How did you get into this business ?

I used my first distro GNU / Linux in 1996 (one Slackware in which set the graphic setting was an achievement ) and I seduced very mightily two things: 1 ) have a UNIX system at home and 2) there was a techno- political roll behind . First , because I came from the world of the BBS and there was talk of Linux as an awesomely powerful operating system. Secondly, because I had to be the ” techie ” of some social organizations for a few years and loved to see that there are other ways to understand the technology and software , which not all have to be restrictions on use and NDA.

It really was not until later that I decided to use GNU / Linux as the primary operating system , nor was my immediate involvement with the open source community , but to late 90s and was buzzing with passion .

4 – Convince our readers why they should use free software.

Everyone should be free to decide what to do with our stuff with our data and with our lives. Use free software allows us to maintain that freedom. Using proprietary software deprives us of some of those freedoms. The remaining issues are technical details, but if you really want to have control over our lives , we must use free software.

5 – How gossip , how Stallman (Richard Stallman ) in person? Tell us experience .

It is a very special person . I can not compare because I have not lived with other so significant in the history of computing and free culture people, but Richard Stallman is clearly special. It must be hard to spend more than two-thirds a year away lecturing to promote Free Software Foundation . This is the reason I usually prefer to stay at the homes of sympathizers to your cause before going to a hotel. What happens is that since private homes around the world vary widely , Richard prepared a checklist of things that bother you and things he likes. This would seem a logical response to the problem , but it turns out that most people are not accustomed to such interactions as rational and hopefully solving meetings go alone. Perhaps this is the most particular feature of Stallman: solves all trying to be rational , so sometimes you encounter the confusion of other people , we tend to not be as rational as normal ( because very tiring as well be all the time ) .

6 – We know you’ve participated in many CTF ( Capture the Flag) and Hack -its . How have you liked the most and why ?

The one I liked was the first in which I participated : hackerslab.org . I found it highly addictive , fun and uplifting ( you learn a lot when you have a challenge ahead as well ) . Since then , I try to spend time prepaparar hack -its easy for other people to experience such intense and pleasant moments that I experienced .

7 – What do you think of the pejorative use that lately many media are giving the term hacker?

From the movie War Games ( War Games ) in which a very young Matthew Broderick was engaged in making war- dialing to sneak into a computer of a video game company , hacking has been considered a synonym for digital assailant. My opinion is that lately is abusing both the term hacker is losing charge ( both positive and negative ) . Hackathones organize and says hundreds of hackers have proposed dozens of improvements to society. I think every hacker call participant in a hackathon is much call (for me hacker is a compliment that you have to do, you can not call yourself a hacker ), but in this context has a positive connotation .

8 – You do not have to get wet a lot, but what is your opinion about the Anonymous movement?

They do many things with which I disagree , but it takes a collective able to uncover all the shame of this world and not pay with his life for it.

9 – No one doubts that the confessed are your thing , any interesting you refer us ?

Every time I go unless I follow and post more thanks to streaming , recordings, etc. . Statewide conferences are very good reference : No Name , Rooted , etc. . so I would start there. Then it’s a joy to go to CCC Congress in Germany, because it breathe a very cool atmosphere and there are always new things to learn. Internationally, Defcon , Black Hat and similar references are required . If we also pulls the hacktivist roll, hackmeeting and surrounding events is a good place to see that the technology has its social policy and also expensive . Finally , I think you have to go to conferences that do not address technical issues in other areas. You have to know how to breathe and what other disciplines can bring them to ours.

10 – Any final conclusion you want to convey?

Shortly , I think this post is a very good initiative and I have already put in my favorites.
